Collection 09 | Feeling Blue

Current obsession: Blue!  I think since buying the dip dye curtains from West Elm (now on sale!) for our bedroom, I am now looking for more inspirational blues to compliment.  I'm also looking to team it up with yellow and even red... sound crazy?  Yes, you're probably right, but I'm the one sleeping in there, right?  Here are a few blue hues below...

Colour Inspiration | Spring Flowers and Hot Pinks

I don't think I have ever seen so many different varieties of flowers on the streets... until I got to LA.  There are so many different types dotted around the neighbourhoods.  I guess it's the sunshine that helps them to grow.  Whilst out on my bike the other day, I photographed a few that caught my eye and thought I'd share them with you.  They really do brighten up any dull day and those who know me, know how inspired I am by hot pinks!  What colours are inspiring you this Spring?

Things I Love Thursday

It's week two of 'Things I Love Thursday'.  I found the Boston image (1) which is for a magazine cover.  I think it's a really sensitive and thought provoking image using the marathon runner's shoes.  It's a beautiful way to honour the people who took part.  Read the story behind the cover by following the link below.

I am currently (always have been) loving anything brass/gold so I am loving the pillow image (2) which is also a 'DIY' on the Land of Nod blog. I think this blog is more tailored to 'all things children/tween's' (to which I have none) but there are some really nice inspiration images on there!

I have recently planted up some succulents which are perfect for the SoCal weather and now I am desperate to get these brass pots (image 3) for some other plants. Simple and elegant.

Every now and then I find an image (4) of an architectural space that really excites me.  With this particular image it's the mirroring lines of the floor finish and wall finish that wraps up to the ceiling/underside of the roof.  The use of materials is simple, yet affective and the use of the large panes of glass make a connection with the outdoors almost making it feel like one space.

We are currently in the process of making over the office space in our house so I'm constantly looking up images (5) of fun inspiration for that. I'm a list maker, so this DIY hanging 'notepad' is a great idea.

Lastly, and I'm not sure I even need to write as to why I chose this image... 1. It's chocolate 2. It's cake 3. There's a brass pan in the background... with chocolate in it!!!  Enough said!

Collection 08 | English Food for St. George's Day

Here are a few of my favourite English dishes to celebrate St. George's Day with.  All the recipes are taken from one of my favourite cookery websites BBC Food.  Now I'm off to make some scones!!!

Week 17 | Happy St. George's Day!

Today is St. George's Day, which is the celebration of England's patron saint.  Dating back to the 12th century (crazy old!), St. George is known for slaying a dragon, a bit like what is going down in Game of Thrones. I'm no history nerd, and shamefully I really don't know much of the story about St. George (note to self, read up on it before posting about it!). However, I am quite patriotic to the motherland and with me living away from it, I wanted to give a shout out to all my friends and family back home in celebration!  It isn't celebrated quite as hard as St. Patrick's Day, but I expect this will change over the coming years (Dear Queen, please give all my peeps an extra bank holiday off, they deserve it!).  If you are celebrating, then I hope it's with a good pint of ye olde English ale or a crumpet (maybe two?) and a pot of tea, served only in the finest china... cup and saucer, if you please.  I am going to have a go at making crumpets soon.  And I'm going to use Paul Hollywood's recipe, so keep watch for my progress on that!

England, friends and family, I love you and miss you all!

Happy St. George's Day !!!

Things I love Thursday

I have to say that I have been super rubbish this week at tending to my blog.  And as a result I didn't get chance to do my usual Tuesday Collection or even my 'weekly round up' (shame on you!)

However, when reading through the blogs I follow on a daily basis, I came across a fun post from Poppytalk called: 'Things I love Thursday'.

The post was an invite to join in with 'Things I love Thursday' and share what has been inspiring you that week.  The idea being, those who are partaking (and those who aren't) can see what each other are currently being inspired by.  It is also a great way to be introduced to new blogs that you might not have  already come across.

So here is my 'Things I love Thursday' montage.  Thanks Poppytalk this is a really great way to start my very late blogging week!

Make | Suede Keyring

I have had this lovely pink pig suede in my fabric stash since university and have never found the right project for it.  So when I saw this keyring 'make-it' on designlovefest I thought I'd give it a go.  The photos are a little wobbly but hopefully you get the gist :)

You can use any bits of left over fabric (preferably leather/suede) to make it with.

Tools required:
- Left over fabric scraps
- Self seal cutting board
- Craft knife or fabric scissors
- Metal ruler (Try to get one with an edge or lip to protect your fingers when using the craft knife)
- Multi surface pencil or fabric chalk
- Fabric glue (suitable for use with leather)
- One no. 1/2 inch split ring
- Pegs or bulldog clip
- Skewer or cocktail stick

Baby pink pig suede

How to:
- Using the ruler and pencil/chalk, measure out the following rectangular strips:
       - One no. 1 3/4" x 8 1/2" (Strip A)
       - Two no. 1/2" x 8 1/2" (Strip B)
       - One no. 1/8" x 5" (Strip C)

You should have a total of four strips.

Start to cut rectangular strips

Recipe | Easter Cornflake Nests

Another very late Easter blog post but what the heck...
This is mainly for my American affiliates who had no idea what these were (I even had to explain to PC why I'd used mini eggs: "they are Easter birds nests, darling!"
I was gutted that I couldn't track down my beloved  hot cross buns anywhere and didn't really have the time to make any of my own.  So instead I went back to the childhood days and made cornflake cakes.

What you'll need:

- 1 Box of Cornflakes

- 2 Bars of 100g chocolate (I used Lindt 70%)

- 1 Bag of Cadbury's mini eggs

- 1 Tablespoon of runny honey

- 1 Tablespoon of syrup (I couldn't find golden syrup in the supermarket so I used maple syrup instead)

- 50g/2oz Butter

- Cute paper cases for them to sit in

How it's done:
Lay out the paper cases into a fairy cake tin.

Melt the chocolate, butter, honey and syrup in a bowl over a pan of simmering water (ensure that the bowl isn't touching the water as this will make the chocolate mixture burn)

Once all the mixture has melted, start to add in the cornflakes.  (I added one cup at a time making sure all the cornflakes were evenly coated.  The original recipe I went off called for only 1 cup which was way too little for the mixture I had.  You are trying to achieve a light even coat to all the flakes)

When you feel you have added enough cornflakes, start to spoon into the paper cases.

Top with 3 mini eggs and pop the tray in the fridge so that the chocolate sets.

This also works great with Rice Krispies too !!!

Easy Easter Nests!

Week 15 | Juggling Jobs

So, it's Monday again and I feel in a bit of a funk!  I can't work out why which is possibly more annoying than being in a funk itself.  The good news is that I have a lot going on this week so I'm putting my morning funk down to the typical Monday blues!

I'm continuing to work with the ladies again this week on the event space project. Last week, I concentrated on the internal elevations and visuals, and this week I am looking at the exterior of the building.  I really wish I could share some of the stuff that I have been doing, but as with most projects in their initial design stage, its all 'hush hush'.  It's fun stuff though, let me tell you !

This week is also the start of the 2nd annual Yarn Crawl LA!  I'm really excited because I've been asked to help out at Wildfiber in Santa Monica on Thursday morning.  There are some really great girls that work there, so I'm super pleased that they thought of me when they were looking for people.  I will also be heading down to Gather DTLA to help out on the Thursday night and also on Friday.  Skuli, the little sheep-like dog is being sheared for the occasion.  Evi, Skuli's Mum and the owner of Gather, is planning to make him a little sweater when she has enough of his hair to spin into yarn.

Recently I've become increasingly obsessed with painting.  And painting pretty much anything I can get my hands on.  Yesterday, I painted some pine cone tips that I'd collected a few weeks ago.  I remember as a kid spray painting cones gold for Christmas, and even though I do have a love of gold, I wanted to do something different with these.  So I painted one in a bright turquoise and white and the other in mint.  All of which are colours that I'm loving at the moment.  The acrylic paints were bought at Pearl art supplies.

I'd really like to have a go at creating some proper artwork on canvas. I'm currently looking to do a part time course in acrylics too.  I have seen so much inspiration on the web of things I like, and abstract art is mainly catching my eye at the minute.  Here are a few of the pieces that have featured in my pinning of recent...
